Mcfly Anthology tour – night 2 (Wonderland & Motion in the ocean)

It was the hottest day of September.
However.
There was also warning of torrential rain.
In Manchester.
Where Curly and I are for the concert.
We were drenched from queuing outside.
Like, completely drenched.
We had to walk through ankle-deep puddles.
From top to bottom, and we have an umbrella.
Curly and I took a photo whilst we were queuing under the umbrella, and another one whilst we were finally inside. After I posted the photos onto Facebook, Curly said the pictures did not fully express the total-wet-through, squishy shoe, damp-bottomed, drenched, ankle-deep-puddle-ness saturation of the experience and 24 hours later she still felt wet.
My hair went to poker straight to bouncy.
Curly (being someone with ringlets already) has even more bouncy hair because of ‘added water’.

Also I got a very wet hug from Chris Bourne, and of course a fistbumps because that’s what we do (yeah right).

Anyway, the whole show was amazing.
They played through the second and the third album, which was brilliant because there are songs that are hardly ever played in their concert and they did.
Even they didn’t think they could do it.

The setlist is basically the album tracks, so I am not going to write much about that.
There are few things of course that really stood out for me.
Like when they were playing The Ballad of Paul K, Dougie looked like he was about to cry.
This song was a combination of what his father and Danny’s father did (they were very similar), and Dougie was the principle writer of this song.

The four idiots are arrogant enough to not rehearse All About You because apparently they should be able to play this in their sleep – which to be fair, wasn’t too far from the truth.
Tom did She Falls Asleep on his own on a piano, and I totally love it – there is a reason behind that, and I shall write that in a bit because there is another song that in on Motion in the Ocean that kind of go hand-in-hand (for me) through some of my darkest times.

Of course when they transitioned into Motion in the Ocean (which is a happier album), the whole room seemed to also have their spirit lifted.
Star Girls of course, is a signature, and that always always get the crowd moving.
Bubblewrap was just Tom and Danny, but it’s as beautiful as it always is – they didn’t realyl sing much of the first verse, because the crowd was singing it for them.
Apparently they never played Lonely in any of their tours, which I thought was a lie (but it wasn’t – they have never played it live). Harry called it “the song that Dougie wrote when I left him”, but wasn’t the truth, because James and Tom wrote that.
Curly and I both love Transylvania and Little Joanna, and these two are what we were looking forward the most.
And they were GREAT fun.
Danny did an amazing solo on Walk In The Sun, and he always always plays that so well.
They ended the show with Don’t Stop Me Now and Heart Never Lies.
They took the piss out of Busted of course (“If you say anymore you’ll get Charlie back”), and it was the day of Mr. James Bourne’s birthday, which made it even funnier (And his dad and littlest brother is actually there as well, so it makes it even funnier).

And here’s the best quote/lyrics of the night:

Another year over, and we’re still together
It’s not always easy, but Mcfly is here forever
